Impeachment Committee | EFF, MKP call for Ramaphosa's application to be challenged

The Economic Freedom Fighters has joined growing calls questioning National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza's decision not to oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa's legal bid to halt the Phala Phala impeachment inquiry.

The matter was raised during a meeting of Parliament's Section 89 impeachment committee, where EFF leader Julius Malema argued that the Speaker had failed in her constitutional duty to defend Parliament and its oversight processes.

Malema insists that Didiza should have actively challenged the President's court application.

Adding to the pressure, Mkhonto weSizwe Party representative Andile Mngxitama also weighed in, saying the Speaker must be persuaded to do what is right in order to protect the integrity of Parliament.
