The family of Sihle Makhaye and KZN MEC of Human settlements will have a joint media briefing after receiving his mortal remains following the successful repatriation from Russia to KwaZulu-Natal. The repatriation was facilitated with the assistance of Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma, who has successfully ensured that Makhaye's remains are returned home. He tragically passed away in Russia on March 28, 2026. According to his wife, Sibonile Ndwandwe, he was lured there under the guise of a lucrative employment opportunity specifically receiving training as a bodyguard but reports indicate it was part of a botched recruitment scam linked to the Russia-Ukraine war.
