Amid an ongoing government reshuffle, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has been ousted from office and is not expected to return. The move has sparked outrage, with multiple protests breaking out across Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Serhii Koretskyi, CEO of Ukraine’s state-owned Naftogaz energy giant, was appointed by parliament to become the nation’s new prime minister. Koretskyi’s cabinet nominations also received parliamentary approval on Thursday, while separate votes are still needed to appoint a new defense and foreign minister, whom President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has yet to appoint.
Parliament is now in recess and will not reconvene until August 18.
To discuss the government reshuffle and its implications, Ukraine Brief’s host Ashim Kumar is joined by Kira Rudik, Ukrainian MP and leader of the Voice party.
