The National Prosecuting Authority has welcomed the Supreme Court of Appeal's decision to hear its appeal in the rape case involving Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso.
NPA Spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, says the ruling is a significant step towards addressing gender-based violence and femicide, after previous attempts to appeal the acquittal were dismissed by the High Court.
The authority says its appeal is based on questions of law surrounding the acquittal.
It further believes that should its appeal succeed, Omotoso can be successfully extradited to face the law in South Africa again.
Kganyago has also noted that the case is important for maintaining public confidence in the prosecuting authority and ensuring justice for victims of gender-based violence and femicide.
