Seven Emfuleni Municipality employees arrested for alleged fraud, theft

Seven Emfuleni Municipality employees have been arrested by the PKTT in Gauteng for alleged fraud, theft and tampering with essential infrastructure.

The suspects, attached to the municipality's Revenue and Electrical Departments, allegedly took payments directly into their bank accounts to reconnect disconnected electricity.

Police say the arrests follow a takedown operation on Friday, in Vanderbijlpark.

SAPS Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says the illegal reconnections resulted in electricity theft and financial losses for the municipality.
