WC issues warning against ‘Death Cap’ mushrooms

The Western Cape Department of Health issued an urgent warning following the hospitalisation of five people after consuming Death Cap mushrooms. It says the National Poison Information Helpline receives one or two confirmed cases a year across the country.
However, five confirmed cases have been reported in the past two weeks alone in the province.
The public is urged not to pick or eat any mushrooms that have not been positively identified as edible by a recognized expert.
