Soo-ahn falls from a rooftop with her older sister and remains unconscious for three years. Upon waking, she finds that her sister, Soo-ryeon, is gone from the world and the family has moved from the home she knew. Her mother, Geum-ok, seems to be hiding something and appears inexplicably anxious. Just as Soo-ahn begins to sense there is more to her sister's death than she knows, a girl named Jae-in, who bears an identical resemblance to her late sister, appears before her. Soo-ahn recalls the story about the shadow that her sister used to read to her. "A lonely shadow came looking for two children who looked exactly alike. Since you have two bodies, give me one."
