A man has been shot dead in Sydney's north-west.

Shortly after 7am on Wednesday, emergency services were called to North Rocks Road in Carlingford following reports of a shooting.

Police found a man in a car aged in his 30s with significant injuries.

He died at the address and was yet to be formally identified.
