Vehicle emissions contribute to poor air quality for Joburg residents: Study

The air Johannesburg residents breathe could be far more polluted by vehicle emissions than previously thought.

Africa's first real-world vehicle emissions study has found that hundreds of thousands of vehicles on the city's roads are emitting harmful pollutants, at levels far exceeding international standards.

The report, released by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) in partnership with the City of Johannesburg and the University of Johannesburg, warns that vehicle emissions are contributing to poor air quality and respiratory illnesses.
