Bangkok bar fire: Investigations, victim identification under way after at least 27 killed

A devastating fire engulfed a bar in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, killing at least 27 people and injuring 63 others after a blaze broke out shortly before midnight on Sunday (Jul 12). 22 people remain in critical condition.

Authorities have set up a victim registration centre for relatives, as many of the victims had no identification on them or remain unconscious. Forensic teams are investigating the cause of the fire.

The disaster has reignited concerns over fire safety enforcement at entertainment venues in Thailand, prompting the government to order wider inspections of such venues, including checks on licences and compliance with fire safety regulations.
