Some unpaid service providers in Gauteng have detailed heartbreaking stories of the impact of delays and non-payment of their invoices by the Gauteng provincial government.
One after the other, business owners detailed that some of their invoices date back as far as 2014.
These cries were heard at the unpaid service providers imbizo that took place at the Johannesburg City Hall.
In his speech, Gauteng MEC for Finance Nkululeko Dunga said at 31 May 2026, the accruals and payables not yet paid across the provincial government stood at R7.5 billion.
He said the Department of Health alone accounts for R3.6 billion of this amount while the Department of Education accounts for R1.4 billion.
