Despite the differences, and the distance the region remains deeply reliant on PNG to fund public services, and at a visit to Bougainville’s biggest hospital, some patients say the quality of the health system offers a warning. However work is underway to change things.

Over 10 years midwife Celyn Tusalah rebuilt the Bougainville College of Nursing on nothing but determination, and a big idea.
