#WATCH | The decision to elevate the bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership reflects our commitment to intensifying cooperation across all areas of engagement, particularly in the fields of defence, security and political cooperation. At the political level, the two sides have agreed that their Foreign Ministers will meet more regularly. There will also be more systematic engagement between the two Foreign Ministries at the senior official level, supported by specialised dialogues at the operational level. An MoU is being signed to initiate structured discussions on counter-terrorism, violent extremism and transnational crime, which will pave the way for practical cooperation in the future. In the defence sector, significant progress has already been made since Prime Minister Luxon's visit to India in 2025, when a Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation was signed. During this visit, a Maritime Cooperation Arrangement is being signed under the umbrella of that MoU, providing a framework for enhanced cooperation in the maritime domain: Rudrendra Tandon, Secretary (East)
