Family members of the 21 young people who died at Enyobeni tavern in June 2022, are calling on the Director of Public Prosecutions to prepare a strong case when criminal proceedings are instituted against those responsible for the tragedy.
The presiding Magistrate in the inquest found that tavern Owner, Vuyokazi Ndevu, Manager Siyakhangela Ndevu, SAPS Sergeant Thabisa Kondile, Eastern Cape Liquor Board Senior Inspector, Zuko Lizani, and former tavern employee, Thembisa Diko, are all liable for the tragic loss of lives.
The families say that while justice is slowly being realised for their children who died, they are bracing for the long road ahead.
