Municipalities brace for impact of withheld funds

Eleven municipalities in the Northern Cape are part of the 69 municipalities that have not received their equitable share from the National Treasury this month.

Hopetown's Thembelihle municipality received a qualified report in the 2023/24 financial year.

It had overspent its budget by 186%, with nearly half of its expenditure classified as fruitless and wasteful.
