Freedom Month | Freedom comes with responsibility

South Africa's freedom and democracy are not complete without reflecting on the iconic role played by former President Nelson Mandela, who, after 27 years of imprisonment, joined millions of South Africans on the 27th of April 1994 to cast his first democratic vote.

As we continue to reflect on the strides our country has made in more than 30 years of our democracy, this morning, we are broadcasting from the Sanctuary Mandela Hotel in Houghton, Johannesburg. The hotel, which was Madiba's home from 1992 to 1998, opened in 2021.

To talk more about its rich historical heritage and former President Mandela's time here, we are joined by Sally-Anne Grinter, Operations Manager of the Sanctuary Mandela Hotel.
