SAHRC Hearing | Investigation into access to affordable food

The South African Human Rights Commission's National Investigative Hearing into South Africa's Food Systems has turned its attention onto the role of the private sector in addressing food insecurity. The inquiry is examining the causes of rising food prices and the barriers preventing millions of South Africans from accessing adequate and nutritious food. On day three of the hearings, agricultural lobby group Agri SA appeared before the Commission, arguing that farmers are not responsible for the prices consumers ultimately pay on shelves.
