Public Protector orders action over Cape Town services

The Public Protector has found that the City of Cape Town failed to deliver constitutionally compliant basic municipal services to residents of Langa Flats and parts of Khayelitsha.

A long-running investigation uncovered maladministration, poor sanitation, unsafe housing conditions, and deteriorating infrastructure, which have infringed on residents' constitutional rights.

The Public Protector has directed the city, along with several national departments, to implement corrective measures.

In response, the City of Cape Town says it has already addressed some of the concerns raised by residents.
