NAIDOC Week marks 50 Years of Deadly | ABC NEWS

Thousands of people across the nation will gather to celebrate the history, culture and achievement of First Nations people for NAIDOC Week.

But the annual event didn't begin this way, with its roots planted firmly in the 1938 Day of Mourning protest – Australia’s largest civil rights protest.

Indigenous Affairs’ reporter Tahnee Jash looks back through the ABC archives to see how it’s evolved over the decades, to what is now a week-long celebration.
