In June 2026, President Cyril Ramaphosa officially launched the rollout of Lenacapavir, a new injectable prevention for HIV.
In his speach, Ramaphosa said the launch of the Lanacapavir represents one of the major scientific breakthrough in South Africa.
Since the launch, the Gauteng Department of Health has recorded significant progress in the implementation of the Lenacapavir programme, exceeding the initial monthly target during the first month of the rollout.
Lenacapavir forms part of South Africa's efforts to expand HIV prevention options and accelerate progress towards ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
For more on this, let's now bring in the Gauteng Department of Health Spokesperson, Steve Mabona.
