Chery SA Plant | MISA fully welcomes takeover of Nissan Rosslyn plant by Chinese manufacturer

South Africa's automotive industry has received a significant vote of confidence, following Chinese manufacturer Chery's takeover of the Rosslyn manufacturing plant in Pretoria.

The investment is expected to preserve hundreds of existing jobs, and create thousands more over the next few years, while positioning South Africa as Chery's manufacturing hub for the African continent.

But while labour has welcomed the investment, there's also a growing debate about whether the country is attracting the kind of investment that creates sustainable industrial growth, or simply becoming a destination for vehicle assembly.

The real question is whether South Africans will manufacture the future of mobility, or merely put it together?
