EMPD official arrested as IPID tracks two more suspects

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate, (IPID) is continuing its search for two suspects in connection with the alleged theft of precious metals and stones worth R14 million.

The oversight body arrested an Ekurhuleni Metro Police official on Friday night, July 3 2026, and is now on the trail of a business man, and another suspect.

The arrests follow explosive testimony before the Madlanga Commission, where Witness K alleged she and suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi, plotted the theft at an apartment in Killarney, Johanneburg in 2023.
