Keiko Fujimori wins Peru presidency amid deep political division

Keiko Fujimori has been elected president of Peru after years of political turbulence and repeated election bids, marking a new chapter in the country’s deeply divided political landscape.

Her victory comes amid concerns from critics about the concentration of power and the independence of key state institutions, while supporters say she represents stability and a tougher approach to crime and governance.

Fujimori, daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, inherits a polarized nation that has seen frequent leadership changes and institutional instability.
