* The ANC has thrown its weight behind newly appointed Minister of Social Development Dina Pule. Pule was previously the minister of communications from 2011 to 2013 before her dismissal after being found guilty by Parliament's ethics committee of breaching the Executive Ethics Code.

* The Democratic Alliance has unveiled the party's economic plan to transform South Africa into a citizenry orientated nation. The plan involves putting the country first, ahead of the DA or political allegiances to allies. The party has also called on South Africans to be part of the country's democratic reform from one-party dominance.

* International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola has vigorously defended South Africa's handling of rising anti-migrant tensions, stating that the government will not tolerate vigilantism or violence.

* The mother of a 23-year-old man that was killed during service delivery protests in Ratanda, Heidelberg, wants justice for her son. Katleho Mokoena was fatally wounded during clashes between demonstrators and the police. Maki Moloi says her son was shot five times in the lower body, including in his scrotum.

* Bafana Bafana received a rapturous homecoming at O.R. Tambo International Airport following their best-ever FIFA World Cup campaign. Hundreds of diehard fans braved the early morning chill, filling the arrivals hall with flags, vuvuzelas and songs to celebrate the team making the tournament's knockout stages for the first time in South African history.
