SABC Plus Exclusive | Soweto 50 years later

SABC Plus is this month offering a special feature on youth matters. Today, fifty years ago, scores of youth were killed in Soweto when the apartheid regime unleashed its fury on school children protesting against Bantu education and the introduction of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction. Some of those who survived left South Africa and sought refuge in other African countries. Some were fortunate to return home after the end of apartheid. Those in prisons were also released. Fifty years later, some of those affected wrote books on how Soweto had transformed and become a place of hope. SABC News Specialist Correspondent Sophie Mokoena has more.
