Polish environmentalists and anglers are demanding answers after thousands of dead fish were found floating in a local reservoir which had been drained for structural work.
Shocking images from the Pilchowice Reservoir in Poland show tons of rotting dead fish washed up along the shores of the lake, part of the Bóbr River system and home to Poland’s second-highest hydroelectric dam.
The reservoir was partially emptied to allow structural work on the century-old dam, which had not undergone major renovation for decades and was damaged during severe flooding in 2024.
But as the water level fell, large numbers of fish began dying across the reservoir and in downstream sections of the Bóbr River.
