Immigration | Voluntary repatriation for Namibians in SA

The Namibian government has launched a voluntary repatriation programme for its citizens living in South Africa.

This follows a wave of protests against undocumented immigration.
Authorities in Windhoek say they are expecting about 1 000 people to return to the neighbouring country.

The Namibian Ministry of Urban and Rural Development says regional councils and local authorities have been instructed to identify temporary reception sites such as community halls to accommodate returnees.
Windhoek says their diplomatic mission in Pretoria is in touch with Namibians.
