EU protectionist measures will drive up global energy transition costs, warns Liu Zhenmin

The European Union's trade restrictions on Chinese clean tech products are not about "de-risking," argues Liu Zhenmin, China's Special Envoy for Climate Change. Unilateral policies such as tariffs on EVs ultimately have "no winner," he says, as they risk driving up costs for everyone during the global transition to green energy. In his view, using government action to stave off competition can harm consumers by slowing innovation and raising prices.
