European NATO members have almost all decided to join the lead of Poland and the Baltic states when it comes to seriously upping their defense spending, in line with what U.S. President Donald Trump has so vocally demanded. But can this be counted as a success of his administration?
“I think that this administration has given more impetus, more reason for Europe to stand on its own two feet, not just because of the public cajoling (...), but also, quite frankly, because of things like Greenland,” Robert Benson, Associate Director of National Security and International Policy Center for American Progress, told TVP World, stressing that “this was not a joke” on Trump/s part.
“Not only do the Americans publicly humiliate and shame us, (...) seemingly take glee in doing so, but then actively behave with belligerence, imitating the language and discourse of Vladimir Putin,” Benson added.
Join TVP World’s Ashim Kumar and his guest as they explore whether Washington’s European NATO members can still rely on Washington as an ally, whether Ukraine’s successes in striking Russian energy infrastructure can translate into long-term support by U.S., and whether Europe is doing enough in responding to Russian hybrid attacks.
