Can fuel shortages force Putin to negotiate? | Ukraine Brief

Ukraine has launched a wave of drone attacks against Russia’s energy infrastructure over the weekend, striking refineries in the Krasnodar and Yaroslavl regions overnight Sunday. This comes as Vladimir Putin publicly acknowledged fuel shortages in Russia, while insisting that the situation is “not critical.”

At the same time, Putin rejected a Ukrainian proposal that would see a mutual pause in long-range strikes, claiming that it would only benefit Kyiv. This comes as 16 people have been confirmed killed in Russian strikes against Ukraine over the last day, including in a missile attack against the city of Dnipro.

President Zelenskyy announced on Sunday a draft law submitted to parliament that would establish a national Ukrainian pantheon a memorial complex that will be open to the public and will be located in Kyiv.

To discuss the worsening situation in occupied Crimea, Russia’s growing fuel shortages following Ukrainian strikes, and whether mounting economic pressure could force the Kremlin to the negotiating table, Ukraine Brief’s host Ashim Kumar is joined by Olena Tregub, Secretary General of the Independent Anti-Corruption Commission (NAKO).
