South Korea AI Push: Tech giants putting in at least US$880b to build fabs, AI data centres

South Korea is making one of its biggest industrial bets yet to cement its position in the global AI supply chain. It has announced plans to mobilise at least US$880 billion in private investment from tech giants including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The top chipmakers pouring in a combined US$518 billion to build four semiconductor fabrication plants in the southwest Honam region. Separately, companies including internet firm Naver are set to invest US$356 billion to build 8.4 gigawatts of AI data centre capacity by 2029. Olivia Marzuki reports.
