PM Modi Highlights Meghalaya's Conservation Model

In 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Narendra Modi highlighted how the people of Meghalaya are leading community driven efforts to protect the state's iconic living root bridges from the challenges posed by climate change.

PM Modi said local communities have taken ownership of conserving this unique natural heritage by documenting, monitoring, and maintaining more than 120 living root bridges. Dedicated teams regularly inspect their condition, while nurseries have been developed to strengthen the surrounding ecosystem, creating a sustainable model for long-term conservation.

PM Modi also lauded Padma Awardee Hally War, who has devoted more than 50 years to preserving these remarkable living bridges. He described her lifelong commitment as an inspiration for the nation.
