30 June | President meets CONTRALESA to discuss immigration

President Cyril Ramaphosa has met with the country's Kings and Queens in a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation on one of South Africa's most sensitive and contested issues — migration. The President briefed traditional leaders on government's five-pillar approach, which includes tighter enforcement of immigration laws, improved border management, and enhanced cooperation with SADC and the African Union to address the root causes of migration. He also called on traditional leaders to play a stabilising role in their communities, particularly in calming rising tensions and preventing xenophobia and intolerance linked to perceptions around illegal immigration.
