Project Dineo | Addressing critical skills gap in South Africa's automotive industry

South Africa continues to battle one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world, leaving thousands of young people without the skills and opportunities needed to enter the job market.

At the same time, the country's automotive industry faces a growing shortage of qualified artisans. But could one initiative help solve both challenges?

Project Dineo, led by the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI), is creating a pathway for unemployed young people to gain practical workplace experience, mentorship and ultimately long-term careers in the motor industry.

The programme is bringing together industry, government and training institutions to build the next generation of automotive artisans, while driving meaningful transformation in a sector traditionally dominated by men.
