PM Narendra Modi will undertake a three-day state visit to Seychelles beginning Saturday at the invitation of President Patrick Herminie. The visit comes at a landmark moment, with Seychelles celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Independence and India marking 50 years of diplomatic relations with the island nation.
PM Modi will attend the Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the Chief Guest, address the National Assembly, and hold bilateral talks with the Seychellois leadership. The discussions are expected to review the full spectrum of bilateral ties and chart the future course of cooperation in development partnership, maritime security, defence, capacity building, healthcare, education, and connectivity. Progress on projects under India's US $175 million economic assistance package, including infrastructure and vocational training initiatives, is also expected to be reviewed. PM Modi will interact with the Indian diaspora, while the participation of Indian Navy ships and a military contingent in the National Day celebrations reflects the depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries. The visit is expected to impart fresh momentum to trade, investment, maritime cooperation, and people-to-people ties, while reinforcing India's commitment to its Vision MAHASAGAR and its partnership with Seychelles as a trusted maritime neighbour and an important Global South partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
