On 5 August 2019, the Government of India revoked the special status of Jammu & Kashmir, bringing the region fully under the Indian constitutional framework. The move was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court, affirming its constitutional validity.

Since then, the region has witnessed expanded access to central laws and welfare schemes, along with increased focus on infrastructure, connectivity, tourism and development.
