Armenia’s parliamentary election has given Nikol Pashinyan a renewed mandate to pursue closer ties with the West. Across the border, Georgia’s pro-European opposition sees the result as proof that Russian pressure can still be defeated. The Georgian Dream party, meanwhile, is asking Washington to restart bilateral relations from a “clean slate.” Its government continues to repress opponents while strengthening political and economic ties with China.
