Immigration Tensions | KZN government outlines action plan

The Department of Home Affairs has processed over 8,900 Malawian nationals at the temporary repatriation site in Durban. By 2pm on Wednesday, eight of the 22 buses scheduled to depart from Durban for Malawi today had left. This while scores of Malawians, who have fled different areas across the province, continue to arrive at the site. An estimated 9000 have been repatriated, according to a representative of the Malawian High Commission.

Meanwhile, the KwaZulu-Natal government has opted against evicting around 1,600 Malawian nationals from a condemned building in Pietermaritzburg for humanitarian reasons.
