Mike Babcock named new head coach of Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers announced Tuesday that Mike Babcock has been hired as the team's new head coach, taking over from Kris Knoblauch, who was fired after the team's first-round loss in this year's playoffs. Babcock last coached an NHL game in 2019, and previously coached parts of 16 seasons with Anaheim, Detroit and Toronto, leading the Red Wings to a Stanley Cup title in 2007-08.
