Armenia’s recent elections were widely framed as a choice between Russia and the West. But were geopolitics really the deciding factor?

In this episode of “Anatomy of Disinformation,” Maia Mazurkiewicz explores how security concerns, war trauma, economic uncertainty, and national identity shaped one of the most important elections in the South Caucasus.

Together with Agnieszka Filipiak, South Caucasus analyst and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Women Poland, she examines what the election results reveal about Armenian society, the country’s evolving relationship with the European Union, and the continued influence of pro-Russian political forces.

She is also joined by Givi Gigitashvili from the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, who explains how Russian influence operations targeted Armenia through disinformation campaigns, AI-generated content, political proxies, and coordinated information attacks designed to exploit existing social divisions.
