#WATCH | In Naxal-affected areas, people could be shot simply for taking the name of the Constitution, and yet these people remained silent. Back then, the Constitution was nowhere to be seen in their hands. Their hands trembled. The Congress was hardly concerned about that painful reality. After 2014, we moved forward with the spirit of 'Nation First' to change these conditions. We set out on this path. We did not merely talk about it, nor did we publicise it constantly, but we certainly acted. We resolved to uproot Naxalism and Maoism from their roots. Today, the entire country can see the results. Maoist terror in India is now counting its final breaths. Many times the final outcome is so significant and far-reaching that the hard work behind it goes unnoticed. In the Naxal-affected regions, where even ordinary people lived in fear every day, there was constant anxiety about being kidnapped, extorted, or robbed of whatever little they possessed. These were places where one could not even speak of development, let alone bring it to the ground. Everything seemed impossible. Yet, we moved forward with a commitment to development in these regions. Over the past 12 years, our government has built more than 12,000 kilometers of roads in these areas: says PM Narendra Modi at Republic Summit 2026.
