The Independent Policing Union of South Africa, IPUSA, has called for urgent calm amid a growing public standoff between the South African Police Service and the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption, IDAC.

The tensions are reportedly linked to high-profile arrests and warrants involving senior police appointments — raising concerns about internal conflict at the heart of law enforcement.

IPUSA says the dispute is not only damaging institutional credibility, but is also particularly worrying given that it is unfolding in an election year.
