Dear You, a Chaoshan dialect film about the generations-long correspondence between overseas Chinese laborers and their families at home has been released globally after crossing 1.8 billion yuan ($264 million) at the Chinese box office since its April 30 mainland debut. The film uses the "qiaopi" – overseas remittance letters inscribed on UNESCO Memory of the World Registor – as its narrative thread to tell a story of deep-seated Eastern affection.
