Polish President Karol Nawrocki has decided to strip his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, of Poland's highest state honour, the Order of the White Eagle. The decision follows a diplomatic row after Zelenskyy named a Ukrainian special forces unit after the UPA, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, which Poland holds responsible for the World War II killing of around a hunder thousand Polish civilians. Critics warn the dispute plays into the hands of Russia's Vladimir Putin.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a stark warning to Belarus, demanding that military equipment near Ukraine's border be withdrawn within a week or, he says, Kyiv will act.
Former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Douglas Lute told TVP World that Zelenskyy's warning should be viewed as an attempt to deter Belarus from becoming more deeply involved in Russia's war. Lute said the Ukrainian president is signaling to Minsk that it still has time to step back from supporting Russian military operations.
