The case against SAPS ballistics expert Laurance Makgotloe has been postponed to Thursday in the Pretoria Magistrates' Court for a formal bail application. The veteran forensic and ballistic analyst allegedly failed to link firearms used in the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart to at least thirty other high-profile murder and attempted murder cases.
Mokgotloe is facing charges of defeating the ends of justice and accessory after the fact to murder, for allegedly omitting crucial evidentiary information from a ballistic report — omissions police say could have allowed suspects linked to multiple violent crimes to evade prosecution.
