Ukrainian momentum is incredible, Moscow’s defenses – exaggerated at best | News In Depth

Ukraine has left the world in awe with its second drone strike on Moscow’s oil facilities carried out within one week. An impressive feat for a country that U.S. President Donald Trump early last year said “doesn't have any cards.”

“The Western support for Ukraine has been under question for a number of months (...) and Donald Trump has been openly withdrawing his support from Ukraine and (...) U.S. military aid to Ukraine no longer is being financed by Washington,” said TVP World’s Europe Editor Marcin Zaborowski. “Ukraine should be having a very hard time and should be collapsing, but it's not. Instead, Ukraine is actually having momentum in this war, which is incredible in itself. Absolutely incredible.”

This stands in contrast with Russia’s own performance in the war. Not only have the front lines stalled, not only is the Russian capital is under attack, but it seems its air defenses seem to be causing more damage than protection.

“The weapon, which proved to be the deadliest in attacking these refineries, was apparently the Russians' own weapon. It was part of a Russian missile defense,” Zaborowski said, adding, “It looks like the whole system is messed up, not just ineffective. (...) All this talk about the supreme Russian technology and an ability supreme (compared to) Western weaponry? It just proves to be exaggerated at best.”
