The Western Cape remains on high alert tonight as severe storm conditions continue to batter parts of the province.

Heavy rainfall, gale-force winds and widespread flooding have caused extensive damage to homes, roads and infrastructure.

Authorities say several informal settlements around Cape Town have been hardest hit, with reports of displaced residents, power outages and dangerous travel conditions.
