"I'm emotionally connected to cinema."
Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili, a jury member for the Golden Goblet main competition at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival, sat down with CGTN's Zhang Meng during her first visit to Shanghai.
For her, cinema creates a space where we can connect as human beings from different parts of the world. She spoke of her admiration for jury president Tony Leung, and called Hou Hsiao-hsien's "Flowers of Shanghai" – in which Leung stars – a masterpiece. She also reflected on Wong Kar-wai's filmmaking journey, noting that his struggles and persistence have inspired her to embrace failure as part of the creative process. She described Wong Kar-wai's films as something deeply personal: "His films make me connect with the humanity in me."
