Reflecting on 50 years of youth resistance

It's 2015 mid October, students are calling for a stop in increases in student fees as well as an increase in government funding for universities. Then the protests gain momentum and students demand free education now. Different institutions catch on and the fight ends up at the Union Buildings as young people remain resolute.
The National Assembly was not spared as the students took their plight to the door of parliament.

Students were clear the Fees Must Fall. I remember one student saying even if they have to sell former President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla homestead they must, as long as the fees fall.

Tonight we look at the state of the higher education through the lens of the 50th anniversary of the Student Uprising, funding issues, participation of young people in democratic processes such as voting. On our panel we have, former Fees must fall activist Nompendula Mkhatshwa, Chairperson for the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, Tebogo Letsie,and SASCO Spokesperson Thuto Mahsile.

We are also incorporating the IEC feature in this conversation which is at 18:30 on Wednesday, and for that we are joined by Mmakgabo Ramatlhodi, She is Assistant Manager for IEC's Civic and Democracy Education.
