Madlanga Commission |Commission continues with testimony linked to 2021 drug busts

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will hear testimony from SAPS Brigadier Campbell Nyuswa, Provincial Commander of the Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit for the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal, this morning at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria.
The Inquiry has recently been hearing testimony relating to the drug busts in Aeroton, south of Johannesburg, and Port Shepstone in KwaZulu-Natal in 2021.

The Port Shepstone drug theft, which took place in June 2021, resulted in 541 kilograms of cocaine being stolen from Hawks premises.
No arrests have yet been made in connection with the theft.
Another drug bust occurred a few weeks later in Aeroton, south of Johannesburg, where police intercepted more than 700 kilograms of drugs in July 2021.

Three police officers were arrested at the scene for allegedly attempting to steal a portion of the consignment. However, the charges against the officers were later withdrawn by the NPA, citing insufficient evidence.
